This Thursday, SSRC will hold its semi-annual Rotary Assembly. This is a time for us to review the first half of the SSRC Rotary Year, assess our accomplishments against the District and R.I. Goals and move forward into the second half of the SSRC Rotary Year with renewed vigor for what we can accomplish as a club to serve the community, grow our personal and professional bonds with each other and have fun!. Several of the committee chairs will give brief summaries of their activities to date and I will share our progress towards the District and R.I. Goals which I laid out at the first meeting in the past July of the Rotary year.
Personally, I have really enjoyed being President of the SSRC. I thank those I have leaned on for support and guidance. We have had some challenges with individuals leaving the club for various reasons (moving from area, transferring to other clubs etc.) but though your interactions with others in your professional and personal lives, I am very optimistic that we can increase our membership numbers to exceed the number of members we began with in July of 2016. We have also had the opportunity for some camaraderie through service projects (bike assembly, bread distribution, backpacks, C.U.R.E. loading party etc.) and social events (mixer with other clubs at Scottsdale Brewery, Suns basketball and Holiday party). I am always looking for new ways to have fun as a club. Please let me know your ideas and at an upcoming meeting we will poll the club to see what appeals to them.
A big thanks to Gregg Podd for providing a peek behind the curtain of the R.I. Board. I was exhausted just listening to his travel schedule and the number of events he attended at the request of the President. Hopefully, Gregg got to keep the frequent flyer miles which he certainly earned! Thank you for your service to R.I. and as a club we are proud that you attend our meeting when you are in Scottsdale.
A quick reminder about the C.U.R.E. Loading party. Details are on our website. Please let Dave Lewis (dlazhomes@aol.com) know if you will be able to help out after the meeting on Thursday, February 9. We would like to have 5-10 individuals help with loading of the shipping container at the Tempe distribution facility. On another note, we will be seeking shuttle drivers for the SDSK event. If you are interested, let Evie H. or Dave L. know.
Superbowl Party today at Scott Sherman's house. Details on website. Batting cage open at 2 pm, game at 4:30 pm. Bring snacks and deserts..food to be provided.
