After learning of the extreme need for low vision equipment for visually handicapped students in the Scottsdale Unified School District, our club donated $45,000 worth of equipment. Two of the low vision teachers came to our club and gave a program and presented us with a "Wish List" of items for these special needs children in the school district. Our Board of Directors met shortly after their presentation and agreed to recommend to our Vision Foundation Board that we donate $45,000 to their cause. Our entire club embraced this recommendation and the Board approved it. We invited the speakers back, telling them we might be able to help with some of the items on the Wish List. Little did they know they would be getting this much support. We then surprised them with a pretend gigantic check for the $45,000. Both teachers had tears in their eyes (along with our club members). They said they were expecting only a few items on their Wish List. It was a memorable occasion for us all.
