Our speaker this week is Stephanie Pressler who is Community Affairs Manager, Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. Stephanie will provide an overview of the activities of the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau and share upcoming community activities.
I would like to remind everyone who is curious about the origins and history of SSRC to attend the Fireside Chat on Thursday, November 10 at Dave Lewis's house. Current and long-standing members of the club will discuss SSRC as well as important Rotary International initiatives during the event. The event begins at 6:30 pm at Dave's house. His address is
SSRC is a community partner in Alli Ortega Empty Bowls 2016, and invites you to attend the November 30 event at Scottsdale Community College Cafeteria. Between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm a handcrafted ceramic bowl and simple pasta lunch are available for $10. All proceeds go to Vista del Camino Social Services, which provides basic assistance to Scottsdale residents in need. Non-perishable food donations will also be accepted. At 12 Noon a short program will include Mayor Jim Lane and representatives from Scottsdale Unified Schools, Scottsdale Arts, City of Scottsdale agencies, and Scottsdale Community College.
The event is named in memory of the late Alli Ortega, daughter of Scottsdale Sunrise Rotarian David Ortega and Rosemary Gannon. Alli was a local artist, City of Scottsdale employee, and loyal Empty Bowls volunteer. Supporting Vista del Camino Community Center prorgams is a primary community service commitment of Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary The club provides volunteers weekly for Vista's bread distribution program and assists with the annual Back to School and Adopt-a-Family Holiday programs. In addition monetary contributions are made to the Healthy Packs and Empty Bowls projects.
The SSRC Board meeting is on November 9 at the Scottsdale Mustang Library. Members are always invited to attend. The meeting begins at 5:30 pm and is usually over by 7 pm.
