Fellow Rotarians,

Our speaker this week is Tom Georgiou.  Tom is a long time member of SSRC and is an attorney with a specialty expertise in estate and tax planning.  We look forward to the words of wisdom from Tom.

Last Thursday, 14 intrepid SSRC members convened at Dave Lewis's house for a "Fireside Chat". The meeting was held in the backyard in front of a nicely burning fireplace and the weather was great.  Dennis Haberer provided an excellent overview of the history of Rotary International and challenged us to come up with answers to questions which every Rotarian should know.  Dave Lewis provided a historical perspective of SSRC, how it began, the high jinx of the 80's and early 90's with "fashion shows" and fake golf outings...lots of fun!  Of course, as always with a view toward raising money and giving back to the community.  I wish to thank Dave and Dennis for the work they put in to put together a great social and educational event for the club and to Mary for agreeing to host this rowdy group at their home.  Finally, we all filled out a knowledge check of the information presented.  I think with the help of Sandon and Keith (some may call it cheating!).. I got most of the questions correct.

In the upcoming weeks, many of you will be approached by David Ortega, President-Elect to participate on the SSRC Board and our various committees for the upcoming 2017-2018 Rotary year.  Please give consideration to his invite to participate in these important Board and Committee positions.  Our Rotary organization is only as strong as those who devote their time and expertise to the pursuit of our collective district and national Rotary objectives.

Yours in Rotary,

Alan W. Bakst, President
