What is Special Day for Special Kids (SDSK)?

 

The event is designed to honor and provide a fun day for special needs children and their families. The day begins at 10:00 am with

registration and ends at 2:00 pm.

 

 

Who can come to SDSK?

 

Children with special needs and their families.

 

 

How much does it cost?

 

It is totally free for the kids and their families -- admission, the rides, the fair and the food.

 

 

How do I register?

 

You register at the day of the event. We will have tables at the entrance, you sign in, receive stickers which will allow admittance to all activities and food.  These stickers are also your ticket to free train and carousel rides.

 

 

What activities will be there?

 

Pony rides, petting zoo, bouncy things, train rides, carousel rides and a wide variety of carnival games overseen by the Service Learning Students of the Scottsdale Unified School District. Ronald McDonald, the Cardinal's Cheerleaders, Diamondback's Baxter, Billy Club Clowns, Liberty Wildlife, Boy Scouts, Scottsdale Police K-9 Unit, Scottsdale Fire Department, I-Dent-A-Kid, Miss Arizona 2011, Miss Scottsdale 2012, ASU Dance Team, Disney characters by the Notre Dame Interact Club, Phoenix Suns Gorilla, Thera Dog Services, a Disc Jockey, appearances by professional athletes and much, much more. We will also have some free items to give away such as Arizona Diamondback hats, sun screen and possibly other items. It is a fabulous day in the park!!

 

 

How do I get directions?

 

McCormick Stillman Railroad Park is located on the South East corner of Scottsdale Road and Indian Bend in Scottsdale (7301 E. Indian Bend Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85250).  Click on our link for a map at www.SpeciaIDayforSpeciaIKids.org

 

 

Will you have food and drinks and how much will it cost?

 

There is free food and drink provided by Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary.

 

 

What kind of food?

 

Hot dogs, chips, popcorn, Blue Bell ice cream, drinks from the

Coffee Bean, water, soda and Gatorade.

 

 

How long has this event been going on?

 

Since 1984

 

 

How much does it cost to ride the train and carousel?

 

Identification in the form of a sticker is provided at check-in for FREE rides on the train and carousel. You must have the sticker for the FREE ride.

 

 

Will parking be a problem?

 

Everything will be done to ensure those with handicapped plated vehicles can park in the lot at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park or across the street.

Where does the money come from to pay for this event?

 

Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary conducts an annual Golf Tournament to pay for the event. There are a number of items that are donated which helps offset the costs.

 

 

Are families without special needs children allowed to come?

 

No, unless they are the siblings of special needs children. This event is an opportunity for special needs children and their families to have a fun filled day.
