Club & Rotary Happenings...
Saturday, February 24, 2018 was a great fun filled day for Special Kids and their families.  Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary has sponsored this event for the last 33 years, which is held at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park to provide a great day for the kids to just be themselves.
We provide lunch, drinks, ice cream, popcorn, bouncy things, pony rides, petting zoo, train rides, carousel rides, local team mascots and cheerleaders, games with prizes, fire trucks, vendors to assist the families in their needs, and all totally free.
This year with the colder weather, we had about 2200 people in attendance.  As the day grew on, the weather warmed and everyone had a great time.
We support this project with our annual Golf Tournament which will be on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Starfire Golf Course.  If you have interest in participating in our event, please go to www.scottsdalesunriserotaryclub.org and sign up to play golf, sponsor a whole, participate in our 50/50 raffle, or just to make a donation.
We also have a number of great companies who contribute to Special Day for Special Kids with donations of the park areas at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park, The Mechanical Society for the free train and carousel rides, Albertsons for food and drinks, Gatorade for drinks, Frito Lay for chips, Shamrock for ice cream, and Penske trucks.  We also had help with our games from ASU Rotaract, Saguaro Interact, Boy Scout Troup #30 and #649.  We wish to thank them for their continued support.
Robert Stein, the Deputy Chief Economist at First Trust made a presentation to our club.   Mr. Stein, forecasts and analyze all major US economic indicators and components of GDP; Assess valuation for broad investment asset classes; Perform frequent client presentations on the US economy, investment outlook, and the interaction of politics and economic policy; Write/edit twenty published pieces per month, including data watches on monthly indicators, weekly economic outlooks, and periodic topical pieces on issues such as monetary policy or the housing market.
Marc Ashton, CEO at Foundation for Blind Children, was the guest speaker at Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club on October 19th, and provided an excellent overview of all the good work their organization is doing to assist their community of over 2,000 visually impaired individuals of all ages in Arizona.
Following Marc’s presentation, a discussion was held by the Board of Directors for the Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Vision Care Foundation, and it became clear that this was an organization our Vision Care Foundation would like to help support.
Marc Ashton was invited back to Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club on November 9th where he was presented with a donation of $10,000.00 for the Foundation for Blind Children from the Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Vision Care Foundation. The presentation of our donation was made by Tom Georgiou, Foundation president. In attendance were John Prenzno, Foundation vice president, Dennis Haberer, Foundation treasurer / secretary, and David Ortega, Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club, president.

Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Rascals played in a Miracle League of Arizona (MLAZ) Whiffle Ball Fund Raising Tournament on Saturday, September 9, 2017.  We played two games to assist MLAZ in raising money for their upcoming season for special needs kids being able to play baseball.  Team was represented by David Ortega, Rosemary  Gampm, David Lewis, Mary Holman and Jay , Keith Walter, Duncan Jensen, Barbara Bakwin, Steve and John Clasen, Jake Duffy, Terry Kutzbach, Mike Locher, Craig Rethwill, Neil Sutton, Cindy Weisser , Dennis and Evie Haberer, and Maeve from our Saguaro Interact Club.  It was a  fun experience and a great way to give back to one of our favorite charities.
