The Miracle League of Arizona (MLAZ) came to Scottsdale about five years ago with the mission "All Children Deserve the Chance to Play Baseball”. Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary has
been dedicated to helping special needs kids with our “Special Day for Special Kids” program for the past 30 years so MLAZ became a perfect match for our club. We have provided financial support ($30,000) and participation in numerous MLAZ events over the years. Our club has recently been designated an "All Star" organization by MLAZ and we now have an impressive star on the stadium wall as well as our Sunrise Rotary banner in center field. See below for our "First Pitch" event scheduled at MLAZ for October 24.
I'm hosting at my house (7721 E Vista Dr) on Monday October 12 and 19 a member small group happy hour. Each "session" will be at 5:30pm and we'll talk about what's going on with our club and district while we enjoy beer, wine, munchies, some good Kentucky bourbon as well as each other's company. If you haven't had the opportunity to sign up for one of these events it's not too late. Call or text me and come on over!
Lee, Jill, and Helene Dueringer are hosting this school year Rotary exchange student Maria Tagliaferro from Brazil. She is an accomplished dancer and is in the top group of four at Desert Mountain High School. She would like to go to the Arizona Ballet's presentation of “Coppelia” on Oct. 29, 30 or Nov. 1. If you would be willing to take her to one of these performances please contact Lee or me. She really wants to go!
Our speaker this week is author Gayle Lagman-Creswick. She has written an advice column for seniors for almost eight years which has a distribution of about 300,000 in AZ, NV, and CO. She also is the author of a book entitled Mary Quite Contrary. Her topic is "Advice for the Over 50 Crowd."
