This Thursday our speaker is Glynn W. Gilcrease, Jr. from the Tempe South Rotary Club. Glynn will be speaking on the life of Abraham Lincoln.
Last week marked the half-way point in our Rotary year. Committee heads provided updates on the activities of the committee and future plans. It sounds like all committees are operating efficiently and meeting their objectives. I reviewed the club's progress towards the District 5510 goals. We are progressing nicely but because of the loss of three members from the beginning of the Rotary year, we are down two members and currently stand at 39 members. I am confident we can make up this gap by year end but it will take all our members to invite their friends and business partners to attend our meetings and social functions to get them interested in joining our club.
A group of 10 SSRC members and friends of SSRC met at Project C.U.R.E.'s warehouse in Tempe after Thursday's meeting to assist in loading a shipping container with medical supplies bound for Rwanda. This is the culmination of a 3 year effort spearheaded by Dave Lewis to raise the funds necessary to deliver on this project. This is the fourth container of medical supplies going to Rwanda. It was estimated that 1.5 million of supplies were shipped. I thank all the SSRC Rotarians who participated in this project. In addition, the Executive Director in Arizona, Nadine Armstrong for her support and assistance in the project. A lot of pictures were taken during the event and should be on our website shortly.
I will be attending a business meeting in California this week. David Ortega our President-Elect will be standing in for me. Hope you have a great meeting Thursday.
