On Thursday, July 23 rd, we had 23 members in attendance and we were joined by a number of guests for our club’s bi-monthly Zoom meeting. Our group heard from speakers Dezbah Hatathli & Amanda Zink from WAYMO (the self-driving car company). Dez and Amanda discussed the history of the project, the technology involved, the future of autonomous vehicles and the benefits of driverless cars and trucks in our world. Our members were genuinely engaged and asked very significant questions concerning the safety of the vehicles, limitations of the technology, and the economic impact of such a venture. It was a fantastic discussion that could have gone on for much longer!

We had the pleasure of Linda Fulmore, our District 5495 Assistant Governor, joining our meeting. Linda really enjoyed herself and was very complimentary of our club, stating how dynamic and engaged we were!

We are proud to announce two recent TRVFA grant recipients. Hailey is a 25yr old single mother with a 5yr old son. Jovani is a 20yr old member of a family of five. Both candidates are being awarded $2,000 grants to study phlebotomy at the East Valley Medical College in Mesa. (Pictures of the recipients below)

Our next virtual (Zoom) rotary meeting is scheduled next week for August 6 that 7:00am (MST). I will be sending out an email with connection instructions. Our speaker will be Dr. Scott Menzel, the new Scottsdale Unified School District Superintendent.

Finally, we want to thank Lauren Katz for being a part of our SSRC family. Lauren was accepted into graduate school and will be leaving for New York in the Fall. Congratulations Lauren and best of luck!

I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday. Have a great weekend!

Best Regards,
