I hope you all had a great weekend! After a two-week break, we reconvened at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club for our first meeting of August. While we did not have a speaker, we had an opportunity to hear some interesting vacation stories from various members of the club ranging from a lost battle with a crab to driving fast and furious through the streets of Italy.

Our club received a “thank you” note from the District 5490 Interact Ambassadors who worked on the Crutches 4 Africa project in Kenya. Our club helped sponsor Cassidy Johnson from Desert Mountain High School. Cassidy will be sharing her experiences with us on August 22. I have included the thank you note and a picture at the end of this newsletter.

This past January, we had David Steinmetz from the Arizona Industries for the Blind (AIB) speak to our group and educate us about the great work that AIB does to help blind and visually impaired individuals achieve meaningful employment. David and I recently spoke, and he mentioned that AIB will host their annual golf tournament fundraiser on September 13, 2019 at Falcon Dunes Golf Course (15100 W Northern Ave. Waddell, AZ 85355) at 7:30am. Our club has agreed to sponsor a foursome (through our vision foundation). Please let me know if you are interested in participating in this tournament.

We had a Board meeting after our regular club meeting last Thursday. During the meeting, we discussed succession planning for our club. We are looking for new people to step up and take on leadership roles within our organization. There are several opportunities and potential Board positions available. I have really found my increased participation in the leadership of this club to be rewarding, and I am sure other members will too. Please reach out to me or any of our Board members if you are interested.

I look forward to seeing everyone this Thursday where we will hear from Steve Clasen’s neighbor, Michael, who will discuss the airplane he is building from his garage!

Have a great week.

Keith
