This week Rich Guin will be speaking with us about how to attract Rotary alumni to our club. According to Rotary International, a Rotary Alumni is anyone who has participated in any of the following programs:
Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Exchange, New Generations Service Exchange, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Rotary Peace Fellowships, Rotary Scholarships (funded by global grants or district grants), vocational training teams (members and leaders), Ambassadorial Scholarships, Grants for University Teachers, Group Study Exchange (members and leaders), and Rotary Volunteers. These individuals are excellent candidates for membership but SSRC may not have a good way to identify or interact with these individuals.
Last week I received a note from Tonya Watson, DG who shared with me that our club has been awarded 4,750 Paul Harris points for distribution. Carole Kralicek, a long time Rotarian who has donated significantly to the Rotary Foundation, provided 59,000 of her points with the District 5510. In her honor, the District developed a special award named "The Kralicek Awards". The awards are very much aligned with the District goals and SSRC has met several of these benchmarks.
SSRC achieved the following goals for medium sized clubs:
- 100% of members giving some amount to The Rotary Foundation
- Best RYLA contributors (nominations and sponsorships)
- Highest ratio of active Rotaractors per club members
- Most support of Assist-an-Elder Campaign
- Best club website (attractive, informative, user-friendly)
Some of these accomplishments are due to a few individuals in the club, others required full club participation. I spoke to Carole yesterday and I decided that I would assign these point to individuals in the club who played a significant role in achieving many of these activities as well and those individuals who really keep the club operating in 2017. I will be announcing the individuals who will receive the points donated to our club in an upcoming meeting. However, it has to be kept in mind that we achieved these goals as an entire club so we should all feel good about what SSRC accomplished in 2017.
Finally, I wish to thank Dave Lewis who filled in for me last week to lead the meeting.
