Scottsdale Sunrise Rotarians:

At last week's club assembly, we came together for the first meeting of the 2016-2017 Rotary year.  We led off the meeting with information from Dennis Haberer about Vocational Services.  "Rotary Means Business" is a mantra encouraging each club to expose their members to the expertise and business networking opportunities with their fellow club Rotarians.  To progress this initiative, SSRC will begin to arrange 2 minute vocational talks rotating through all members of the club at each meeting until everyone has an opportunity to share their professional backgrounds with others in the club.  At this week's meeting a sign up sheet will be circulated to achieve this goal.

SSRC also recognized Olivier Wamain on his achieving Paul Harris Fellowship status.  Congrats to Oliver.  In an effort to better connect with other local Rotary clubs, a Happy Hour event has been arranged at Scottsdale Beer Company on August 3 from 5:00-6:30 PM.  Members from SSRC, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills and potentially other clubs have been invited to the event.  We look forward to seeing you there.

At the meeting, we discussed the District 5510 Rotary goals and discussed these goals at our "team" tables.  I am confident listening to the conversations and the energy at the tables that we can reach and, in some cases, exceed the district goals.  These goals will be discussed at our upcoming July 13 Board meeting at the Mustang Library.  Members are always welcomed to attend the Board meetings.

The SSRC website has been updated with an number of events where you can participate including the Rotary Emerging Leadership conference, Rotary Water Summit and Rocky Mountain Rotary Leadership Institute. Detail are found on the SSRC website.

As a reminder, the ASU Rotaract chapter is hosting the Big West Conference in October.  They are seeking host families for out-of-town Rotaractors from October 22-24. Anyone interested in providing shelter (and may a bit of food!) to a college Rotaractor should contact Alice Phan at Alice.Phan@asu.edu.

Michael Locher will be speaking at our meeting on July 14 on the new rules about fiduciary responsibility of financial advisors.

Yours in Rotary,

Alan W. Bakst, President
