At our September 26th meeting, Rotarian Jim Bissonett (Rotary EClub of the Southwest) discussed the charitable arm of Rotary, The Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation transforms donations into projects by tapping into a global network of Rotarians, who in turn, invest their time, money and expertise into a variety of projects such as eradicating polio and promoting peace. Among the projects discussed were the Navajo Water Project, Microcredit lending, and updates on Polio Eradication.

On October 3rd, we had a lively and engaging meeting with Congressman David Schweikert who represents Arizona’s 6th congressional district of the United States House of Representatives. Congressman Schweikert, who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, discussed the national debt and shared his ideas on reducing government spending, energy and environmental issues, and healthcare entitlements and potential technological innovations that may help to curb Medicare costs. Several good questions were asked at the meeting, and the Congressman was kind enough to stay late to answer them.

This week, the club will hear from Rotary District Governor, David Simmer. As a guest, David has spoken briefly at our club in the past where he discussed Rotary’s Vision Statement. He’s a great Rotarian and dynamic speaker, and I look forward to hearing his message on Thursday.

Finally, congratulations to the 2019 Rotary Rascals who won their first game 18-2! Unfortunately, all of that base running took its toll, and we came up short in our second game. Next year we will have to pace ourselves. Regardless of the outcome, everyone had a great time!

Have a great week!
