I hope you all had a great weekend! Our speaker last week was Cassidy Johnson from the Desert Mountain Interact Club. Cassidy discussed her recent trip to Kenya with Crutches 4 Africa. Crutches 4 Africa collects used and surplus mobility devices, ships them to developing countries, and distributes them for free to people with physical challenges. Those of us in attendance were touched to see the impact the group had and the appreciation of the recipients.

At our August 15th meeting, we had Steve Clasen’s neighbor, Michael, speak about his experiences building an airplane in his garage.  Michael is building a Van’s RV-10 (four-seat kit airplane). After nearly 7 years of hard work, his airplane is nearly complete! As a fellow pilot, I was really impressed by how far experimental (kit) aircraft has come along and by how relatively inexpensive it is to purchase one.

Congratulations to Steve Clasen who had the winning raffle ticket and selected the queen of spades - winning about $450 at our August 15th meeting. The winning raffle ticket wasconveniently drawn by Steve’s neighbor, Michael.

Some exciting news for the club…our board has approved the applications of two new members - Hector Dessis and Austin Sigrist. Hector works in the insurance industry, and Austin is a financial advisor. Both will be inducted at an upcoming meeting. I am thrilled to have both join and look forward to their contributions to Rotary.

Finally, a reminder that we are still looking for a foursome to participate in AIB’s annual golf tournament fundraiser on September 13, 2019 at Falcon Dunes Golf Course (15100 W Northern Ave. Waddell, AZ 85355) at 7:30am. There is no cost as our club is one of the event sponsors. Please let me know if you are interested in participating.

Have a great week!
Best Regards,
Keith

Dictionary Project – Kathy Lane is working with Craig Rethwill to facilitate our club’s Dictionary project this year. For those who are new to the club, the object of the Rotary Dictionary Project is to provide third grade students a personal dictionary that will serve them at least through elementary and middle school. Many educators and researchers see this as a key to better reading, speech, and writing. Distribution will most likely take place in September. Please reach out to Kathy (if you haven’t already done so) if you are interested in participating.
