At the next SSRC meeting, we are very please to have Greg Podd as our speaker. Greg attends SSRC meetings when he is not at his home club in Colorado. Greg served as the V.P. for Rotary International last year and will be sharing some highlights of his Director year and thoughts about the Rotary organization. I look forward to Greg's insights.
This past weekend was an excellent one for SSRC Rotarians. Early on Saturday, the new combined districts held the 100th Anniversary Birthday Party of the Rotary Foundation at McCormick-Stillman Train Park in Scottsdale. According to Jim Bissonet, District Foundation Chair, over 200 Rotarians, friends and family signed up for the event. I really enjoyed the event with my wife, daughter and granddaughter. Layla, a 3 year old, had great fun having her face painted, riding the Merry-Go-Round (her horse was a dappled-grey named Trigger) and taking a tour of the park on the "choo choo train". The hot dog truck did a great job serving the people and the dogs were really good! A big shout out to the ASU Rotaract club for manning the games for the kids. All members of the Rotaract club turned out. I also spoke to DG Tonya who is excited to volunteer at our SDSK event in March.
Saturday evening was SSRC at the Phoenix Suns game. Despite the outcome of the game (Suns lost), the game was entertaining and the SSRC company was great. Ten SSRC Rotarians along with their spouses and friends attended an impromptu dinner at Angels Trumped restaurant before the game. I enourage all SSRC members to participate when they can in SSRC social events.. it was really a lot of fun and you really get a chance to know your fellow SSRC Rotarians.
