2020-2021 Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Year Accomplishments
  • Added one new member as of May 2021:  Bob Brunner,
  • Unfortunately, we lost:  Lauren Katz, Bill Adams, Alli Roth, Duncan Jensen,  Madge Adams, and Bob Brunner as members.
  • Achieved our 100% goal of $100 per member to Rotary International EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year).
  • 100% Paul Harris Club.
  • We sponsored the following individuals with a TRVFA grant (The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona):  Jovani Rodriguez Hinojos, Hailey McGraw, Veronica Miller and Joanna Soliz, and Octayyvia Manning.
  • Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary was the top fund raiser in the state for The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona with an outstanding amount of $30,200.  Twenty-two donations from Club members 61% of our members participated.
  • Provided dictionaries to five Scottsdale Schools for third graders.
  • Provided a $10,000 grant from our Vision Foundation to Arizona Industries for the Blind.
  • Provided a $10,000 grant from our Vision Foundation to Foundation for Blind Children.
  • Provided $3,196.20 grant for Miracle League from our Vision Foundation.
  • Provided a $1,000 to Phoenix Arcadia Rotary Club for If The Shoe Fits.  We introduced them to BHHS Legacy to receive a matching grant for this program.
  • Provided $500 to a Rotary International Grant from the US/Mexican conference for a Mongolia Hepatitis project.
  • Donated an additional $2,273.63 to the Keller School Project to provide meals to families in need.
  • Provided a $5,000 grant to Raising Special Kids to be used by their organization to assist the Special Needs Community as we will not have a Special Day for Special Kids in 2021.
  • Provide a $800 scholarship to, Amigos de Guatemala for Sandra Rodriquez who we have sponsored the last few years.
  • Delivered 30 bikes and helmets for our Bike Project to Vista del Camino for the Holiday Program, $3346.84.  Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 we could not build them this year, Walmart to complete this part of the project.  Thanks to the District for a matching grant of $1,500.        
  • Alli Ortega Empty Bowls allowed us to donate $370.77 to assist in feeding the hungry. 
  • Completed our first online Silent Auction raising $825.49 for future projects.  Thanks to Lauren Wheeler form making this such a success.
  • $500 to support the Wheelchair Distribution Project helmed by the Rotary Club of Oaxaca Antquera (RCOA) in Oaxaca, Mexico.
  • Contributed $250 to the Cloud Covered Streets project to assist the homeless.
  • Continue to sponsor two Interact Clubs, Saguaro and Desert Mountain.
  • Pledged $5,000 to Scottsdale Community partners as a sponsor of Back to School. Will receive a match from BHHS Legacy to take this amount to $10,000.
  • Provided $1,000 to Polio+.
  • $1,000 sponsorship to Allie Ortega Empty bowls.  
  • The Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club agrees to sponsor Global Grant #GG2124746 (San Carlos, MX Senior Care Facility Renovation).
  • $250 to the Healthy Drinking Water for Schools Project in Veracruz, Mexico. 
  • $250 to the Dream Center Remodeling Project.
  • Volunteer Day at St. Mary’s Food Bank
  • Our last meeting in June will be a Club Assembly to install Craig Rethwill as our new President for the 2021-22 year.
We have had a great year, lots of events, great socials, supported the community, and played a role in international projects.  Looking forward to another great year with Craig Rethwill at the helm.
Our thanks to Clark Gilhart IV for leading us through a very trying year, getting us set up on ZOOM meetings, taking us to hybrid meetings, and just being a great leader.
