Fellow Rotarians,

At our August 29th meeting, we heard from Marc Miller from the Scottsdale Railroad and Mechanical Society and Nick Molinari from the Scottsdale Train Park. Marc and Nick spoke about the history of the McCormick Stillman Railroad park, upcoming projects and initiatives, and ways to help support the park. On September 5th, we invited Rotarians Lauren Wheeler and Hector Dessis to discuss their careers in the insurance industry and how they help people navigate the complexities of Medicare.

This week the club will hear from Terri Alexon, who serves as the Investor Education Coordinator for the Arizona Corporation Commission's Securities Division. Terri will discuss common tactics used in investment fraud and how to protect yourself.

Our club continues to grow! This past week we inducted Hector Dessis, and this upcoming week we will induct Austin Sigritz. The board also voted to approve Dale Schafer's application, and we are expecting to receive an application from Lauren Katz.

Ed Gonzalez and the rest of his foursome will represent our club at the upcoming Arizona Industries for the Blind golf tournament at Falcon Dunes Golf Course on September 13th. Good luck to Ed and his team. The pride of Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary is resting on their shoulders - no pressure!

Finally, per Dave Lewis, Chuck Lund has relocated to Fort Meyers, Florida. We wish Chuck the best of luck with his new adventure!

Have a great week.

Best Regards,
Keith

Dictionary Project – Kathy Lane is working with Craig Rethwill to facilitate our club’s Dictionary project this year. For those that are new to the club, the object of the Rotary Dictionary Project is to provide third grade students a personal dictionary of their very own that will serve them at least through elementary and middle school. Many educators and researchers see this as a key to better reading, speech, and writing. Distribution is currently taking place. Please reach out to Kathy (if you haven’t already done so) if you are interested in participating.
