On Thursday, September 3 rd, we had 20 members in attendance for our club’s bi-monthly Zoom meeting. We had the pleasure of Adam Yaron & Brad Carr, with the City of Scottsdale, join us as speakers. A large portion of the discussion centered around the proposed “2035 General Plan” and the long-term planning for Scottsdale. We also were updated on the different apartment and housing subdivision projects that are currently underway within the City. Great conversation and certainly helped to keep us abreast of the proposed direction of Scottsdale.
Congratulations to Greg Geenen who won the 50/50 raffle on Sept. 3 rd.  Mr. Geenen has kindly donated the $780 in winnings back to our club in support of our Mesa food project for children in need. Big heart felt thank you to Mr. Geenen.
Dennis & Tex are proud to announce that they have approved Amaya Porch for a TRVFA grant to attend East Valley Medical College. She will be a part of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program which began Sept. 9 th, 2020. Amaya is the third TRVFA grant recipient to be sponsored by SSRC this Rotary year! (Amaya’s picture is attached below)
Dictionary Project Update: While we normally distribute dictionaries in person to the children at the various elementary schools, we are unable to do so this year due to the pandemic concerns. Nonetheless, the children will still receive the dictionaries and we are going to record a brief video via Zoom after our next meeting to discuss what Rotary is and what we do as well as explain the dictionaries and some of the neat things they can discover with them. Video should last 4-5 minutes with a couple of members talking but would love to have as many people in the “audience” from our club to say hello to the kids and wish them the best!
Please note we are introducing a new Proposal Form for the submission of ideas to the Board of Directors. While not required, it is highly recommended to expedite reviews and determinations. Please review the attached documents and feel free to reach out to me with any questions. The purpose of the document is to streamline the process by contextualizing ideas and addressing requirements for approval preemptively.
Our next virtual (Zoom) rotary meeting is scheduled next week for September 17th at 7:00am (MT). I will be sending out an email with connection instructions. Our speaker will be Allister Adel, Maricopa County Attorney.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday. Have a great week!
Best Regards,
2020-2021, President – Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club
