A couple of quick updates:
First... Club Field Trip!
We took a field trip to the Boys & Girls Club Virginia Piper Branch on Thursday May 4th. The tour included various programs to keep kids engaged and learning.
Second... District Conference
Inspiring guest speakers. Cross-Club projects. Fun hospitality suites. Solar Car racing. The official Iron Lung Lager release.
This year's District 5495 Conference was well-attended and well-programmed. We heard from various speakers who overcame great adversity, including a polio survivor, a national-champion wrestler from Mesa who survived 3 strokes in 24hrs, and several more.
Our friends at ASU Rotaract received the District's Partnership in Service award. Stephen Phair, President of Sun Lakes Rotary, and me representing SSRC, had the opportunity to share about the value in our partnership with ASU Rotaract. Accepting their award was Dora Le, Zach Dellner, and Aurelio Morales.
Scottsdale Sunrise was also recognized for two special awards, which I'll share with the Club at this Thursday's meeting!
Our very own Craig Rethwill even won the 50/50 raffle benefiting Rotaract!
On Saturday morning Rotarians from all over the district participated in a service project building solar cars going to kids in Kingman.
But before the cars could be sent, they need "quality assurance testing." Rotarians were divided into teams based on where they sat for breakfast and built two cars; one solar-powered car, and one recycled car using the left-over parts.
SSRC was represented by teams 11 and 14; team 14 made it to the finals.
