Scottsdale Sunrise Rotarians:
What a great kickoff to the SSRC Year!!! Those of you who were at the induction ceremony at the Pasta Brioni Restaurant on Thursday, June 23 enjoyed good fellowship, excellent food, and many laughs to start the new Rotary year. As your incoming club President, I am extremely honoured and excited to be working with you and the Board to achieve our 2016-2017 Rotary goals. As I stated in my remarks, everyone is now on a SSRC Committee and I look forward to each committee member contributing to the success of SSRC Rotary in the upcoming year.
At our first meeting of the Rotary year on July 7, we will review both the RI Presidential Citation goals and the District 5510 goals. We will spend time in our respective committees discussing these goals and providing feedback to the Board on the appropriateness of the SSRC goals this year.
Please check the SSRC Website frequently as new Rotary International, Regional and District 5510 events will be posted on the site under the calendar. Upcoming events include the Arizona Emerging Leaders Summit on September 9-10 in downtown Phoenix. Applications for this program are due by July 16. In addition, the region is sponsoring the Rocky Mountain Rotary Leadership Institute which will be held August 6 at the Doubletree Flagstaff. The details for these programs are provided as links on the SSRC website.
Our first social event of the year will be in collaboration with the Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills and Scottsdale Airpark club. This event will be a "Happy Hour" event on August 3 beginning at 5:00 pm-6:30 pm at the Scottsdale Beer Company. This event will provide an opportunity for SSRC club members to mingle and develop contacts with other members of our neighboring Rotary Clubs. There will be no Rotary Club meeting on August 4 as a result of this event. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Happy Hour.
Finally, the ASU Rotaract chapter is hosting the Big West Conference in October. They are seeking host families for out-of-town Rotaractors from October 22-24. Anyone interested in providing shelter (and may a bit of food!) to a college Rotaractor should contact Alice Phan at Alice.Phan@asu.edu.
I look forward to seeing everyone on July 7.
Yours in Rotary,
Alan W. Bakst, President
